“CHULUCANA - THE PRINCESS WHO DIED OF LOVE”

By Walter Rodríguez Herrera

A: Hi! Pedro. How are you?

B: Fine. Thank you. And you?

A: Very well, thanks. By the way, what are you doing?

B: I’ve finished reading an interesting regional story. It’s for the present PBL “Let’s tell a story”

A: What’s its name?

B: It’s “Chulucana, the princess who died of love”

A: It sounds interesting. What is it about?

B: It is about a brave and a wise princess of Tallan Culture who ruled a town of women warriors. This town was located between the rivers “Yapatera” and “Ñacara”.

A: A warrior? Who did she fight against?

B: She fought against an Inca General who was sent by the Inca Tupac Yupanqui to conquer this region.

A: Was she beautiful?

B: Of course. One day, a chief (cacique)named Ayanique arrived at the town with objects in gold and multicolored birds as presents. She received him with a great feast which lasted several days. They fell in love with each other. They lived together for a long time. But the chief died and was buried in a hill called “Chulucana” like her. Some years later, the princess died of sadness and was buried next to her love in that hill too.

A: What a nice story? Could you lend me your book?

B: Sure. Here you are.
